Urban Tech Creative (then known as Urban XR) was selected for ORE Catapult’s first Launch Academy East of England. The programme helped us learn more about the offshore wind sector, speak with industry specialists and explore where mixed reality might be useful.

Before offshore installation work begins, teams use Rehearsal of Concept drills to walk through an operation together. People gather around physical models, discuss each stage and identify potential problems.

We explored whether mixed reality could add useful information to this process without replacing the room, the models or the discussion. Our early demonstration used Meta Quest 3 to bring sea conditions, vessel movement and an installation sequence into the physical rehearsal space.

The Launch Academy helped us test the idea, understand the working environment and shape ROC XR into a clearer proposition.
