Dock Stories

Dock Stories Ipswich is a character-focused heritage AR trail based on Ipswich’s waterside. It focuses on the people that made the docks and Ipswich a thriving centre for trade and innovation over the years. We worked with our client Ipswich Central and the local community to develop a total of 17 characters from the history of the docks which users could listen to and meet in three dimensions at four locations across the trail.

As you progress through the stops you collect the characters after listening to their short introduction. When you have collected all of the characters at a stop you get a reward of a larger set piece 3d model of a part of the dockside heritage, populated with fictional characters of the time.

Our work included all research into the characters and the architecture of the time for the 3d model (including a ship!). Local heritage stakeholders provided voices for the characters. A map guides users to the stops and also highlights local publicly accessible businesses supported by Ipswich Central Business Improvement District.
